A piece of history remembering the famine relief schemes of rural Ireland and the beauty of Slieve Gullion to hang on your wall.

Description

An Balla Ocras – the hunger wall is a testament to the famine relief walls built on Slieve Gulion and in countless other areas of Ireland to sustain our ancestors. Men women and children carried the stones to build the wall dividing the townlands of Slieve Gullion and Dromintee in exchange for a bag of meal and a few pence. I like to replace a fallen stone in remembrance of their toil on my walks in this beautiful place.

This print sits perfectly in both a more traditional country style setting or a more modern styled home. The vibrant colour and texture of the silks and wools used in the original textile piece are beautifully captured on the finest art paper. It comes as a ready to hang gift.

‘An Balla Ocras’ is a certified, numbered and signed, limited edition Fine Art Giclée print from an original textile artwork by Caóilfíonn Murphy O’Hanlon of Cushla of Gullion. Professionally printed on highest quality 240gm Arches Aquarelle Rag Watercolor paper, this print meets the highest standard of archival quality in its colour fastness and age resistance.

This limited edition print of my wool and silk painting, captures the texture, vibrancy and colour of the original piece wonderfully. A reminder of the Irish Landscape this fine art print has been expertly framed by a local craftsman, making it a beautiful ready to give gift from Ireland.

There was a beauty in their toil and determination. It reminds us to keep going, keep trying in face of adversity.

Coming from South Armagh and living away from home, I wanted to have a piece of art from home. I couldn’t be happier with my print.
So much history in the area which is beautifully captured in Caolfionn’s work. Her love of the area in which she lives and works is magnetic!
