Creative Textile Workshops
From her 5th generation 300 year old cottage cottage Caóilfíonn will guide you to create memories of the mountain in her slow crafted and gentle textile workshops. Immersed in the story of this beguiling place you will find a wealth of inspiration. Listening to the stories and songs and using native wools dyed with the plants along the hillsides to adorn your creations, painting with wool you will find a close connection to the landscape outside this half door studio and you will bring a piece of Slieve Gullion home with you.
Whether you want to book in for a short taster feltmaking workshop, a half day experience, full day or fully immerse yourself for a 2 day textile retreat, Caóilfionn will ensure you get the most of your creative experience. She lists her workshops in her shop a few times a year however group and tailored one to one workshops can be arranged upon request. 1 / 2 week Artist retreat residency can also be considered.
In our workshops you will learn about the properties and processes of wool, how to use wet felting and needle felting, embellishing with silks and stich and an array of techniques to paint with wool.
Workshops are usually limited to a maximum of 6 participants to enable one on one guidance and tuition. Suitable for individuals, small groups or as a family activity (age 10+).

Cushla Of Gullion Studio, a cosy creative space situated high along the Garriba, the South East slope of the mystical mountain Slieve Gullion in South Armagh. Situated in the centre of the famed ring dyke looking over not just the Ring Of Gullion but counties Armagh, Louth, Monaghan, Meath, Cavan, Dublin and Wicklow can be seen on a clear day. Caóilfíonn lives here in her maternal ancestral home with her husband and four children and their menagerie of rescue animals.
Located in the beautiful hills of South Armagh, on the northern side of the border the studio lies just 10 mins off the main motorway an hour’s drive from Dublin and Belfast airports. Accomodation can be recommended upon request.
Your Tutor
Caóilfíonn Murphy O’Hanlon is an internationally exhibited and award winning Irish Textile artist who has been sharing her work and facilitating textile workshops for over a decade. Her work is held in private and public collections including the National Collection. Caóilfíonn’s pieces have been presented to visiting dignitaries from various countries on behalf of the NI Executive and the Irish Government. As a newly graduated Borderland Storyteller, Caóilfíonn will beguile you with tales of this rich and rare land of her ancestors as part of your workshop experience.
You are guaranteed a warm welcome and day not to forget. Homemade soda bread and wholesome stews or soups are included with refreshments as well as endless laughter tea and coffee.
